The aim of the Foundation is to promote research in the technical or natural sciences at Swedish universities and institutes within Essity´s strategic areas.
The Foundation´s main activity is the provision of research grants. In addition, we offers travel grants for doctoral students who wish to participate in scientific conferences and we also awards grants for the best annual master´s thesis (30 credits).
For 2015 we awarded grants of about 11 MSEK of which 10.5 MSEK was for research projects.
Our Research Board ensures scientific quality and determines which research projects should be funded. The Research Board members are:

Research applications of high scientific quality will be granted provided that the scientific area is aligned with Essity´s prioritized areas including hygiene and forest products. Applications should include:
The Research Board has its annual decision meeting at the end of November; applications for research projects shall be received by the Foundation at the latest on September 30th.
The Foundation awards individual travel grants which support doctoral students to actively participate in scientific conferences in areas which the Foundation supports. Applications are evaluated as they are received and should include:
Bo Rydin Foundation annually awards grants of 30,000 SEK each for the year´s best master´s theses. For work performed jointly by two students, the award is 20,000 SEK each. The thesis must be within Essity´s strategic areas; personal hygiene products, tissue paper or health care products.
High quality Master thesis works can be nominated by supervisors. Two paper copies of the thesis should be sent to the Foundation by September 30th together with comments and recommendations from the supervisor, head of department or equivalent.
