Operators at Essity’s Springvale manufacturing site started collecting pads that have passed quality specifications, but with non-perfect packaging.
Products are sent to regional community organizations who provide social services and support those experiencing homelessness, fleeing domestic violence or doing it tough.
About the program:
Many remote Australian and Torres Strait Island communities do not have access to affordable period products. A single packet of pads has been known to cost up to $16 AUD due to freight costs and a lack of competition.
As part of both Essity's and Share the Dignity's Reconciliation Action Plans, we've distributed of 245,000 packets of period care products across 62 charities around Australia, giving access to these essential products to those in need.
We hear heart-warming stories of when the products are received about how grateful and appreciative the recipients are.
In conjunction with Share the Dignity, we assist to empower these communities with tools and education to combat period poverty.
As our partnership progresses, we're focusing on providing period care education and resources to support this further.
