The history of the Nokia factory dates back to 1865, when Fredrik Idestam founded a wooden lump factory in Tampere. In 1868-1869, the factory was moved to Emäkoski beach in Nokian. The company has had several owners and names during its history. In the summer of 2017, the SCA Group was divided, and the hygiene and health sector operations were separated from the forest industry operations. The hygiene and health sector operations will now continue under the name Essity.
