Forest and fiber

Responsible forest management is essential to protecting biodiversity and securing renewable raw materials. We work to source fiber responsibly, strengthen traceability, and support sustainable value chains that create value for both society and our business. As a significant user of fresh wood-based fiber, how we act on forest and fiber matters for the ecosystems we depend on and for the long-term resilience of our supply chain.

What we do

We use certified fresh fiber and support responsible sourcing practices that strengthen traceability and sustainable forest management. We also work with suppliers and partners to advance transparency and improve how forest and fiber are managed across the value chain. In parallel, we continue to increase the use of recycled and alternative fibers where relevant, helping reduce pressure on natural resources while maintaining quality, performance, and supply security.

Outcome

More responsible sourcing, lower environmental risk, and stronger support for biodiversity and sustainable value chains. This also helps strengthen long-term access to renewable raw materials and supports confidence among customers and stakeholders who increasingly expect verified and traceable sourcing practices.

Our target is that 100% of fresh fiber sourced annually is FSC™ or PEFC-certified. The reported 2025 outcome is 99.7%. Through certifications such as the Forest Stewardship Council™ (FSC™ C003255) and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC/16-33-1406), Essity ensures sustainable fiber sourcing, thereby preventing deforestation and promoting biodiversity.
