What we produce

At Essity in Mannheim (Germany), we turn base materials into essential products like toilet paper and household towels. What makes it even more rewarding is knowing that the products we make are part of everyday life. Whether it’s Tempo tissues or Zewa toilet paper. I feel proud when I see them in stores and know they came from our lines. Being able to say, “Hey, I helped produce that,” gives me a strong connection to the impact of my work.

Working at the largest production site in Europe

What makes the site truly unique is that it is one of the few sites where the entire production process happens in one place. From raw material like wood or straw, to pulp, to paper, and finally to the finished product. We see everything: the paper machines creating the mother rolls, the converting lines embossing, gluing, cutting, packaging, and palletizing. Being part of that full cycle is something you don’t experience everywhere.

My job is to help make sure that every part of the production process runs smoothly, from quality and efficiency to safety. One of my favorite areas is the rewinder, the heart of our converting lines. It is where paper becomes the final roll, and I have developed deep expertise in optimizing its performance and supporting the team with troubleshooting and training.

Teamwork that matters

At Essity, teamwork and safety go hand in hand. We start each day with a line meeting to review the last 24 hours. Analyzing speed losses, defects, and identifying where we can improve. We don’t work in silos. Whether it’s between process engineers, line leaders, or maintenance teams, we support each other across all seven production lines. If one line is running smoothly, we jump in to help others. There is no “mine” or “yours”- just shared goals and mutual support.

Here, you are not just part of a process - you shape it. And when you are surrounded by a team that communicates openly, supports each other, and shares a common purpose, you know you are in the right place.

For me, good teamwork means clear communication, understanding each other’s priorities, and solving problems together. No one can know everything, but together, we cover every angle. That is what makes our processes strong and our work meaningful.

My Journey from Operator to Engineer

From the beginning, I took pride in my work and about a year ago, I was asked if I would be interested in stepping into a process engineer role. That moment meant a lot to me. Out of hundreds of colleagues, they saw my potential. It confirmed that my hard work had been noticed. I immediately said yes and began my school in metal engineering, while gradually taking on more technical responsibilities. Today, I am on the path to becoming a process engineer - optimizing production, analyzing processes, and training colleagues, all while completing my school externally.

Overcoming my hesitance

But the transition wasn’t without hesitation. I had spent years working closely with my shift team, and I worried about leaving them behind. Would they think I saw myself as “better”? Would I lose the bond we’d built? I didn’t want to be misunderstood or seen as someone who had “moved on.” But those fears did not come true. Instead, my former teammates supported me, asked for advice, and respected the experience I brought with me. Now, I bridge both worlds - understanding the shop floor and applying that insight to improve processes from a technical perspective.

Why you should consider working at Essity

What I love most about my work is the sense of ownership. When a pallet leaves the line, I know I have helped to ensure its quality. That responsibility makes me feel seen and valued and it is something I would recommend to anyone considering a career here.

At Essity, you are not just part of a team—you are part of something that works because we work together.
