Essity around the world - June 2025

Every month, Essity will highlight activities from around the world showcasing how we make a difference in society and in people's lives through hygiene and health. With our products, solutions, and services, we care for a billion people in 150 countries every day.

In June, our stories feature several examples of how Essity innovates for good, produces responsibly and contributes to society. Happy reading!

Innovate for good

Based on consumer insights, in 2018 Essity invented a coreless toilet paper. The principle is simple: no tube to dispose after use and long-lasting double rolls (so twice as much toilet paper per roll). Since then, Essity has applied its proprietary technology to additional categories such as household towels and has expanded it to several markets in Europe. This unique know-how allows to reduce waste and CO2 emissions. This year, Essity is applying its coreless technology to Lotus Just.1 in France (a best-in-class toilet paper, so big & thick that 1 sheet can be enough) wrapped in a paper packaging made from renewable materials.

In the health and medical sector, Essity's Actimove Manus Air is revolutionizing fracture care. This ready-to-wear stabilizing wrist brace is quicker to apply, water-resistant, and designed for easy post-operation wound inspection, enhancing patient comfort and hygiene.

Additionally, Essity's Serene by Delta-Cast offers a quieter, safer, and simpler way to remove casts, addressing safety concerns and improving the patient experience.

Regarding healthcare, Tork, Essity's world leading brand in professional hygiene, has created Virtual Reality training programs for hospitals and care homes based on the World Health Organization’s Five Moments for Hand Hygiene. These immersive and engaging trainings allow users to experience roles like doctors and nurses in realistic settings and are being adopted globally in hospitals, care homes, and nursing schools.

Innovate For Good

Sustainable manufacturing and distribution

In Poland, Essity’s Oława Personal Care factory in Lower Silesia recently expanded its production lines for baby diapers and incontinence care products. This investment has created 70 new jobs and significantly increased production efficiency and sustainability with new equipment that are four times faster and more energy-efficient than previous technologies and 6500 solar panels contributing to 5% of the plant energy needs.

Producing sustainably requires proper safety conditions. The Essity Oakenholt paper mill in Flintshire, Wales, has achieved over 2,060 consecutive days without a reportable workplace accident, marking a significant milestone of more than five and a half years. This accomplishment underscores Essity's strong emphasis on safety culture. The mill's efforts have been recognized with multiple awards.

Essity also recently opened two new warehouses. One in Porcari, Italy, coinciding with the 40-year anniversary of Essity’s presence in Italy. It features advanced technology for security, automation, and storage, ensuring efficiency and safety. The second one in Melbourne supplying Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands with three times the capacity of the previous warehouse, supporting a low-carbon economy through energy-efficient design and reduced truck movements.

Society initiatives

Society-wise, in Colombia, Essity’s feminine hygiene brand Nosotras partnered with Saving The Amazon to plant 1,000 trees in the Colombian Amazon. This initiative, part of the International Day for Biological Diversity, connects consumption with sustainable actions and social impact.

In the UK, Essity marked Menstrual Hygiene Day with a landmark awareness event early June in London, highlighting the menstrual health gap and advocating for systemic change to ensure safe and stigma-free menstruation for all, including in the workplace.

Hygiene and health is often a question of education. In The Mölndal City Museum, in the neighborhood of Gothenburg, Sweden, the exhibition "The history of hygiene - Sweden’s journey to the clean girl era" in close partnership with Essity, explores the history and evolution of hygiene, cleanliness, and taboos. Running until May 2026.
