Every month, Essity highlights activities from around the world showcasing how we make a difference in society and in people's lives through hygiene and health. With our products, solutions, and services, we care for a billion people in 150 countries every day.

In January, Essity’s teams across the globe continued driving meaningful impact with breakthrough innovations, purpose-led initiatives, community support, and award-winning brand achievements. From sustainable investments and internationally recognized product excellence to educational programs and humanitarian actions, these stories demonstrate how Essity’s commitment to hygiene, health and wellbeing is making a difference worldwide.

Innovation serving performance, sustainability and well-being

Austria – Essity is investing in its Ortmann site to secure long-term production and strengthen climate-friendly, resource-efficient operations. The installation of a new screw press enhances production stability, supported by a sustainable new building. Additional upgrades to one of the paper machines will improve efficiency and deliver higher quality, softer paper for hygiene products such as toilet paper and hankies. These investments including in a new steam turbine will reinforce the site’s energy efficiency, reaffirming Essity’s commitment to innovation and ensuring continued reliable delivery to customers.

Germany – Essity is expanding its coreless technology to kitchen towels with the launch of Zewa Wisch&Weg Smart from the Mannheim plant. By eliminating the cardboard core, the new rolls use less materials, double the sheet count, and are reducing CO₂ emissions across the product lifecycle by 10%. Backed by a technological investment, the towels are PEFC-certified, compostable, and packaged in 70% postconsumer recycled plastic. This breakthrough innovation strengthens Essity’s leadership in sustainable tissue production.

Worldwide – Actimove has partnered with world-renowned climber and Olympian Alex Megos to launch the Leukotape Classic by Actimove in a special Alex Megos Edition. Designed specifically for climbing, the tape reinforces the skin, reduces friction, and supports stressed or injured structures. This strategic collaboration taps into the growing popularity of climbing in Europe and the U.S. Distribution will focus on climbing gyms and through e-commerce, strengthening Essity’s presence in new sports-driven channels.

UK – Essity also prioritizes the well-being of its employees through the deployment of health check machines across its five manufacturing sites. The initiative offers instant, confidential health checks, including blood pressure, heart rate, body fat, Body Mass Index (BMI), weight and a stress reading. Staff are encouraged to use the machines at their convenience, with no appointment needed, and receive a personal health report with wellbeing guidance. The machines have provided over 400 checks. These efforts demonstrate the company’s genuine care for the health of its employees.

Driving positive impact through education and donations

Ecuador – Essity’s period care brand Nosotras celebrated a major milestone by delivering 300,000 educational kits across the country as part of “The visit you’ll never forget”. The program, running for over 30 years, has been promoting menstrual education, breaking taboos, and creating safe learning spaces in schools. Students benefit from expert-led talks offering clear guidance and trusted information. This longstanding initiative demonstrates Nosotras’ commitment to empowering young people and supporting menstrual health nationwide.

Colombia – Essity’s brand NoVarix strengthened its leadership in vascular health by hosting a wellness day for more than 100 recyclers from the Regional Association of Caribbean Municipalities (ARCA). In collaboration with the Grupo Familia Foundation and national health partners, the event offered free vascular screenings and delivered NoVarix compression stockings to those in need. Educational sessions promoted hygiene and selfcare with the support of Essity brands like TENA, Leukoplast, Nosotras, Ortopédicos Futuro, and Tork. The initiative reflects Essity’s purpose-driven approach and community focus.

Spain – Essity employees in Barcelona prepared hygiene kits for women, men, and babies, including essential Essity products such as diapers, sanitary napkins, and tissues. The Red Cross distributed the kits to people in vulnerable situations in Sant Joan Despí near Barcelona, where one of Essity’s offices are located. This initiative reinforces Essity’s dedication to supporting well-being and fostering solidarity within local communities.

Mexico – Essity and its menstrual health brand Saba, together with UNICEF, launched “Mis Días de Luna” (My Moon Days), a radio series of 22 episodes designed to help girls and adolescents understand their menstrual cycle with confidence, accurate information, and without fear or stigma. Following the story of Mextli, a 14-year-old navigating her first period alongside her friends and family, the series addresses myths, rights, emotional wellbeing, and the natural rhythms that shape this stage of life. The initiative is now on air through community radio and online platforms, reaching audiences in areas with limited connectivity in Mexico.
