  • This time, we have conducted the biggest international menopause insight study.

  • 16,000 people interviewed both women who have not yet knowingly started the menopause and women who have been through or are going through the menopause

  • 11 countries researched

Global Main Highlights

Two main insights emerge from the Global Essity study on menopause:

There is a lack of knowledge from women

  • 52% of women going through the menopause declare experiencing 1 to 3 symptoms while around 60 symptoms can be associated with menopause.

  • Only 20% of women feel very informed about the menopause, and the impact it is having on their body.

  • 61% didn’t come across any campaigns about the menopause which put the spotlight on symptoms.

Menopause is still a taboo

  • Half of post menopausal women think that the menopause is a taboo subject, with 52% of those respondents saying this is because people don’t like to talk about a ‘deterioration’ of their body.

  • 42% avoid talking about their experience with their partner.
